O voo 1907 da GOL decolou do aeroporto de Manaus às 14h02, com destino ao aeroporto Galeão, no Rio de Janeiro. A bordo estavam 154 pessoas, incluindo 148 passageiros e 6 tripulantes. A aeronave seguia rota convencional, mas cerca de uma hora após a decolagem, o Boeing 737-700 colidiu com um jato executivo Embraer Legacy 600 que estava voando na mesma altitude, porém em rota oposta.
